More About EyeSeals 4.0
If you’re managing dry eye, EyeSeals 4.0 is the mask we reach for first. It’s designed to create the strongest overnight moisture seal in our range and fits the widest range of adult face shapes. If you have a smaller or narrower face, or want a lighter, more compact option, our Quartz and Onyix masks may suit you better – see the comparison below.
How Does EyeSeals 4.0 Help Dy Eyes?
EyeSeals 4.0 is designed to:
- Help you wake up with eyes that feel more comfortable and hydrated
- Reduce moisture loss overnight, which may ease the dryness and grittiness some people notice first thing in the morning
- Create a barrier against common Australian conditions like air conditioning, ceiling fans and low-humidity air
- Be worn alongside eye drops or ointments as part of an overnight dry-eye routine
- Shield the eyes from CPAP air leaks
It’s widely used by people managing evaporative dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction and nocturnal lagophthalmos (where the eyes don’t fully close during sleep), but individual results vary, and it isn’t a substitute for a proper dry-eye assessment if your symptoms are ongoing or severe.
Why choose the EyeSeals 4.0 moisture chamber mask?
If your eyes feel dry, gritty or sore when you wake up, you’re not imagining it. During sleep, eyes can lose moisture faster than during the day, especially when a fan or air conditioning is on, or with nocturnal lid lag (where the lids don’t fully close while you sleep).
EyeSeals 4.0 is designed for overnight use. It creates a sealed, humid micro-environment around the eyes, intended to reduce the amount of natural moisture that evaporates overnight. Many people find their eyes feel less dry and irritated when they wake.
The 4.0 version is Eye Eco’s latest design, which is softer and more comfortable, with an improved seal compared with earlier models. The TPE material is hypoallergenic, latex-free and washable, and it fits over standard CPAP straps if you use one.
Our optometrists often recommend EyeSeals 4.0 as part of an overnight dry-eye routine.
Who it’s for
- Anyone starting an overnight dry-eye routine and not sure where to begin – this is our default recommendation
- Average-to-larger adult face shapes, including most men
- People managing evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
- CPAP users experiencing air leaks toward the eyes, particularly with partial-face masks
- People who sleep with a ceiling fan, air conditioning, or in low-humidity environments
- Anyone in dry-eye recovery after refractive surgery such as LASIK (check timing with your surgeon)
Who it’s NOT for
- Children under 12
- Smaller or narrower face shapes – Quartz or Onyix will usually fit and seal better
- Active eye infections – wait until clear before using
- Anyone with a strong claustrophobic response to anything covering the face
FAQS
- Wash your hands before handling the mask.
- Position the mask over closed eyes so the soft cushions create a seal around the orbital bone — not pressing on the eyeballs themselves.
- Adjust the strap so it’s snug but not tight. You should feel the seal without any pinching pressure.
- Sleep as normal. Most people adjust to the feel within 2-3 nights.
- Remove gently in the morning. Eyes should feel less dry than your usual baseline.
- Clean the mask every few days with mild soap and water. Air dry. Don’t put in dishwasher or microwave.
For best results:
- Use every night for at least 2 weeks before judging effectiveness
- Combine with morning hot compresses (Sterileyes or similar) for a complete dry eye routine
- Don’t apply heavy creams or oils to the under-eye area before wearing — they can degrade the TPE seal over time
If your eyes are still dry on waking after 2-3 weeks of consistent use, book a dry eye consultation, there may be additional factors (meibomian gland dysfunction, lid hygiene issues, demodex) that need addressing alongside overnight moisture protection.
